Review
This musical isn't very good in my opinion. Essentially it's the last three musicals
combined in some shape and form, or at least the Eien Densetsu musical and
the SuperS musical twisted together. It's extremely confusing and most of it
is the same-old, same-old, we've-seen-this-before-in-past-musicals. The Amazon Trio
is revived and works under Galaxia and Queen Beryl. King Endymion is brainwashed
and made to be Queen Beryl's boy toy, and eventually Tuxedo Kamen has the same thing
done to him. The Trio's main role is bringing the Dead Moon Circus around; using
that ploy, they capture the Inner Senshi and steal their star seeds. The same songs
are used for the villains ("Galaxia Gorgeous"; "Queen of Darkness"; the Trio's intro
song; and the Zirconia song is revised as she is not in the musical) so it gets
pretty dull after a while. The interesting thing is that the Outer senshi are
actually not the "bad guys," the Inners are, even though the Inner Senshi pull a
Uranus-and-Neptune-pretending-to-be-evil-under-Galaxia thing. Anyway, there's
not much interesting plot to discuss since it just becomes the other musicals
anyway with Queen Beryl and Pluto doing their duet; Beryl taking the blow from
Endymion and dying; the Trio turning on Galaxia but dying like they did with
Zirconia; the Sailor Senshi all dying but being brought back to life by Galaxia
who turns good; the Senshi all defeating Chaos. Unlike the other musicals,
the Trio come back to life (yay), and everyone's happy again as Tuxedo Kamen,
Chibimoon, and King Endymion come back to life.
As for the songs, despite the fact that about seven or more came from other
musicals (not including "La Soldier" or "La Moon"), several of the new songs
were very good, especially "Everlasting Moonlight," a great song, and the Outer
Senshi's "Makin' for the Right." The song the Outers sing with Usagi and
Chibimoon is also pretty cool as is Tuxedo Kamen's "Miracle Twister" (which is
highly underrated). The new cast is good though since they're all cute. It's
really disappointing that they had to act to such a rehashed musical though,
they deserved some fresh material (it's the start of a new legend, why the heck
isn't it NEW?). The new Sailormoon has a different look and voice from Anza-san,
but she's still quite good and gets better during Kaguya. (In
Kaguya, she overcomes the shy aspect you might see in Shin Densetsu.)
The Shin Densetsu Kourin Video Guide is very interesting too, I'd
recommend that over the actual musical. The musical is good to get for a few of
the songs and to see the new cast in action, but you're not missing much storywise
if you don't see it.
